Erased Voices: The Escalating Impact of Patriarchy on Education and Human Rights for Afghan Women

Author : SafiaAmiry

Abstract :This study examines the enduring and intensifying impact of patriarchy on the education and human rights of Afghan women, with a focus on the heightened challenges they face following the Taliban’s resurgence. Afghan women have historically navigated a complex socio-political landscape marked by deeply rooted patriarchal norms, yet recent shifts have exacerbated barriers to their basic rights, particularly in accessing education. This paper explores the compounded effects of long-standing societal structures and current political regimes that marginalize women, forcing them into increasingly restrictive and invisible roles. Using a human rights framework, it investigates how these structural forces limit educational opportunities and undermine Afghan women’s agency, participation, and potential in society. The research highlights the voices and resilience of Afghan women who strive to challenge these restrictions, while also underscoring the urgent need for international attention and support to address the stark violations of their rights.

Keywords :Afghan women, patriarchy, education, human rights, Taliban structural oppression, resilience.
