Frenectomy in closure of the maxillary inter incisal diastem: about a clinical case

Abstract : Introduction: Inter-incisal diastema represents a common problem in children with stable mixed and permanent dentition. The pathological insertion of the upper labial frenulum plays an important role in its appearance. Methodology: About a young girl aged 13, in good health, who presented with compression of the maxillary inter incisor papilla and gingival bleeding following orthodontic closure of the diastema. Intraoral examination showed pathological insertion of the upper labial frenulum with Class III according to Placek. Results: The therapeutic strategy chosen was surgical frenectomy which made it possible to improve the aesthetic appearance and preserve periodontal health, thus facilitating the closure of the diastema. Conclusion: The clinician must understand the etiologies and consequences of inter incisal diastemas in order to recommend the appropriate treatment which is the simplest, quickest and least expensive in order to guarantee better long-term stability of the results obtained
