Indirect Single-Unit Bonded Partial Restorations of Posterior Teeth

Abstract : Indirect single posterior restorations represent a major advancement in dentistry, combining durability and aesthetics while preserving dental tissues. They advantageously replace direct composite resin restorations and fixed prosthetic restorations. Their success relies on a deep understanding of classifications (inlays, onlays, and overlays), meticulous material selection, and a specific approach for pulpless teeth. Cavity design is based on new anatomical and morpho-structural principles to conserve tissues while respecting biomechanical and adhesive principles. The process steps, from impression taking to bonding, are crucial to ensure long-term success. Alongside the development of this biomimetic and adhesive dental approach, the tools and biomaterials available to dental surgeons are evolving, with computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) playing a central role in this transformation. Lastly, durability assessment is essential for optimal clinical management.
