Inner West Council’s quest to make Spatial data the decision tool of choice

Abstract : Inner West Council is a 35km2 local government area with a population of around 200,000 residents, 4 to 10km west of the Sydney CBD, in New South Wales, Australia. It was formed 10 years ago through an amalgamation of 3 smaller Councils. 2 years ago, Council won a grant that is beginning to redevelop the way staff and residents viewing and using their data. This presentation is talking about the education journey that was required to convince management to fund the visualization of data, staff to embrace it and the public to demand it. It tells a story from receiving the grant to managing change, showcasing means to effectively educate Council staff and to collaborate with stakeholders to find ways to integrate this new technology into new projects and day-to-day operations. It will outline how cutting-edge technology is starting to revolutionize Council’s operations and is starting to change the perception about the importance of data.
