Flyash as a Mine Void Fill Material

Author : Jain Manish Kumar

Abstract :Fly ash is the finely divided residue that results from the combustion of pulverized coal and is transported from the combustion chamber by exhaust gases in the process of air pollution control devices. Fly ash problem is very vast in India due to high ash content of Indian coal. Generation of fly ash at high volume is a major challenge for its bulk utilization. Number of alternative available for utilsation for flyash. Filling of mine void through fly ash generated is a way toward the solution with a concept of full recycle. Moreover it needs proper investigation towards negative implication to environment and practical difficulties associated with. Sand and Mill Tailings are conventionally used by mining industry to fill voids created due to mining. Present chapter is attempt towards compile all information available for use of fly ash in mining industry as a fill material, so that one can plan for effective and bulk utilization of fly ash with a concept of full recycle.
