Bilateral Erb's Palsy: A Rare Case Report

Author : Dr. Fatema Eliyas Amin

Abstract : Bilateral Erb’s Palsy is an extremely rare manifestation of neonatal brachial plexus injury, with most cases occurring unilaterally and following obstetric trauma. We describe a term male neonate delivered by lower segment caesarean section who presented with reduced bilateral upper limb movements at day 14 of life in the absence of difficult delivery or instrumental assistance. Clinical findings were consistent with classical bilateral Erb’s palsy, while comprehensive radiological and neuroimaging evaluations excluded central, skeletal and metabolic etiologies. The infant was managed conservatively with early immobilization and physiotherapy resulting in complete neurological recovery. This case emphasizes the need for heightened clinical awareness, systematic exclusion of differential diagnoses and the excellent prognosis associated with prompt, appropriate management of bilateral Erb’s palsy
