Narrative Review of the management of cancer pain and barriers to accessing pain interventions in the management of pain in cancer patients
Author : Dr Brigid Wolf , Dr Jamie Young
Abstract : Pain is a common experience for patients with cancer. As the survivorship post cancer treatment improves with evolving treatments, the management of pain for patients with cancer has become more complex. Management of pain in patients with cancer is shifting towards a multi-modal approach which includes some interventional pain procedures. There are a number of barriers in utilizing interventional pain procedures in the management of pain in cancer patients. In this narrative we explore the multiple challenges in providing interventional pain procedures in the cancer patient population and the complexities regarding pain in patients living with cancer.
