Knowledge and Practice of Community Pharmacists on dispensing practice and counselling at community Pharmacies: A Community Pharmacy- based educational intervention in Nepal

Abstract :A “Community Pharmacy” is a professional term and often referred to as a medical shop or store (Aushadhipashal) or a retail pharmacy in Nepal. As per the Drug Act of 1978, pharmacists, assistant pharmacists and pharmacy professionals are eligible to work in a community pharmacy after registering in the Department of Drug Administration (DDA) [Good Pharmacy Practice 2005].The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) developed standards for pharmacy services under the heading “Good pharmacy practice in community and hospital pharmacy settings” in 1992. The Good pharmacy practice standard are set for: the promotion of health, the supply of medicines, patient self care and improving prescribing and medicine use by pharmacists [ FIP/WHO Geneva 2011] Pharmacies, medical stores, or chemist’s shops are the first point of health care in Nepal.(Ansari, 2016 ). The present study aimed to document and compare the impact of educational intervention on knowledge and practice of pharmacist working at community pharmacy in Nepal.
