Abstract :This study outlines a strategic framework for conserving and managing the multicultural heritage of Thailand's Southern Region, encompassing provinces like Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla, which share a Malay cultural continuum with neighboring nations. The region possesses rich archaeological and cultural resources (Strength) and benefits from private sector restoration and strong cooperative networks, including universities and local volunteer groups (Or Sor Mor Sor). However, significant weaknesses include a critical shortage of specialized personnel (archaeologists, conservation officers) in the Fine Arts Department, site encroachment, and a disruption in intergenerational transmission for arts like Plaeng Bok (traditional narrative/singing). Opportunities exist through diversified funding, cultural ties with Malaysia to boost educational tourism, and leveraging Information Technology (IT) for outreach. Key current initiatives include the UNESCO World Heritage nominations for the Manora dance-drama and Songkhla Old Town. The main threat remains security concerns in the deep South, hindering fieldwork. Strategic Objectives and Recommendations: The strategy's dual objectives are to foster a peaceful, cohesive multicultural society and to elevate community welfare via sustainable cultural tourism. The strategic recommendations are proposed: Establish formal conservation and monitoring mechanisms; Foster public understanding of conservation and multiculturalism; Integrate historical sites into a cohesive cultural tourism network; Implement IT for systematic data archiving and dissemination.
