Analysis of Needs for the Development of Academic Guidance Model: A Perspective of Student Response

Abstract :Academic guidance is a guidance process provided by a lecturer or educator to students with the aim of helping them plan, develop, and complete their academic studies effectively. The purpose of this research is to find out the need to develop an academic guidance model for students in higher education. This study is a quantitative research with a survey approach method. The population involved in this study is students of the Faculty of Languages and Literature. The research sample consisted of 121 students with random sampling techniques. The data collection technique uses observation, documentation, and questionnaire methods. The data collection instrument used observation sheets and student response questionnaires consisting of four likert scales containing a series of closed questions. The data analysis technique uses descriptive analysis used to describe data such as frequency distribution and average. Based on research, it was found that students tend to prefer the direct guidance method, but there is also interest in the online guidance method. This indicates a growing interest in the flexibility and ease of access offered by online tutoring. Therefore, combining these two methods in a hybrid mentoring approach can be an effective solution. This hybrid method allows students to benefit from direct and in-depth face-to-face interactions, while taking advantage of the convenience and flexibility of online tutoring. As such, the hybrid mentoring model can accommodate a wide range of student preferences, create a more well-rounded learning experience, and improve the overall effectiveness of academic tutoring.
