What Competences we need for HE Management and Administration. Results from two German Nationwide Surveys and the Proposal for a Competence Model

Abstract :In this proposal I announce the presentation of results from a study about Higher Education (HE) managers in Germany. The last years and in particular the Corona Pandemic have had a major impact on HE Institutions, which has led to increasing skills and competences – in particular digital competences – of HE managers. In a large mixed methods research project our central research question is: What are the perceived needs of higher education managers in terms of qualifications and competences and how are their current characteristics assessed? In order to analyse their required competences, we present a competence model based on different groups of competences in HE management and use this model as an analytical grid for the presentation of our results. Finally, we discuss the implications of these results for the further education and professional development of HE managers
