Protocol for Supporting Students with Disabilities in Operations Research Learning

Author : Laura PlazolaZamora

Abstract :The World Declaration on Education for All (UNESCO, 1990) emphasized the importance of implementing measures to ensure equal access to education for individuals with disabilities. Integrating students with disabilities into higher education requires establishing a supportive environment that provides all individuals with equal opportunities for development while actively promoting their participation across a diverse range of academic disciplines and fields of study. Universities are committed to addressing the educational needs of students with disabilities by developing programs and enacting policies that facilitate their admission and retention. Nevertheless, significant challenges remain. These include the rigidity of the academic curriculum and the necessity for professor training. Moreover, there are difficulties with subjects that involve mathematical content, such Operations Research, which require reasonable adjustments to eliminate barriers that impede the learning experiences of students with disabilities. This paper proposes a protocol for supporting students with disabilities in learning quantitative subjects, such as Operations Research, at a Mexican university.
