How Cittaslow Movement Affect Tourism Demand: The perspective from Türkiye
Author : Nermin Merve YALÇINKAYA
Abstract :The phenomenon of cities tends to continue its uniqueness as a legacy, shaped by its natural and social components. In contrast, due to the impact of changing living and working standards, cities are transforming into living spaces that resemble each other in terms of spatial use and sectors. This situation, in which the unique identity values of cities are not sustainable, also affects the quality of life of city dwellers. The sustainability of cities that provide an environment for living, working, producing, resting, and developing various sectoral activities is being protected by the Cittaslow movement. Today, the International Network of Slow Cities, which has members all over the world and a wide network, is based in Orvieto, Italy, and has …. member cities from … countries. While … cities in Turkey are members of the association, it is known that a significant number of cities have applied for membership. This status, which is voluntarily adopted by the municipalities of small cities, is seen by member cities as a tool to ensure the sustainability of all components of their local identity, and they tend to continue with quality applications. In this study, the concept of a “slow city” in Türkiye, member cities, and theoretical and practical applications are examined, and the quiet city movement is evaluated in the context of Turkey as a tool for sustainable tourism.
