Exploring advance education's future in digital transformation era

Author : Lawrence Vorvornator, Prof Mdiniso Joyce

Abstract :The study explores digitalization’s future in higher educational institutions (HEIs), to ascertain whether it will be successful or not. Digitalisation in the advance education was slow but the COVID-19 pandemic has unexpectedly compelled HEIs to shift from traditional methods of teaching and learning to complete the curricula. Digitalisation has become pertinent in everyday life, especially in the workplace. This shifted universities’ key purpose to equip future managers to find solutions to problems, and information literacy as important skills. The study is grounded in connectivism theory propounded by Siemens and Downes, and it adopts literature review otherwise known as a ‘meta study’. The study’s findings reveal that digitalisation is part of everyday lives of children from the day they are born. There are other kinds of digital division globally which affects the lives of the younger generation. To equip today’s students for future technological-rich society; there is the need for digital transformation in advance education. We argue that digitalisation in advance education is the only way to equip younger generation for the future. We therefore recommend that teaching and information management should be addressed to students, and their everyday digitalised lives through basic education as main focus areas.
