Author : Lai Chuen LAM
Abstract :There have been a lot of discussions already regarding what teachers and students need to know and the skills they need to acquire in the age of AI. However, comparatively less attention is paid to what parents need to learn regarding AI despite the fact that they have immense influence on the learning process when the kids are outside the schools. The researchers of the study are in charge of designing a workshop series to prepare parents in Hong Kong with AI literacy specific to their needs. We define that parents can pay different roles in this new AI-enabled leaning process depending on their readiness to adopt the technology, from non-participants, guardians of misuse, followers of school policies, and gradually to facilitators of new learning strategies. New knowledge, skills and perceptions are needed for parents to progress from one role to another and the workshop series are designed to enable these changes. In the presentation we will elaborate our concept of AI literacy for parents, the components within and compare them with AI literacy for teachers and students
