Obstacles in global Mathematics education and a possible solution to overcome these

Author : Tamas Kovacs

Abstract :In human society mathematics plays a crucial role as it is the language tool for humans to describe nature and the happenings around us. Mathematics usually contains abstract contents and in general, abstract ways of thinking. Therefore, an appropriate level of education is paramount and it should weigh these factors. Different countries of the world apply different educational approaches and strategies but recently, technological development seems to be a key factor all around. Mathematics education is implemented in every curriculum but, due to its complexity, students often find it difficult and they become ignorant of the subject. Furthermore, globally there is a significant gender gap in mathematics rich subjects. This is an ongoing problem and although, has been addressed in different countries, a general solution is still waiting to be found. The aim of this work is to provide a review of different mathematics education strategies and, based on this review and classroom practices, to suggest a unique education model that could be well implemented in any counties and that is based on simplicity, scaffolding, and most importantly joy and curiosity that should be essential part of education. Based on our findings, this can contribute to narrowing the gender gap, too.

Keywords :Joyful mathematics education, scaffolding, gender gap.
