Abstract :This study was carried out to evaluate the causes of low students’ enrolment in Technical Education programs in Lagos State Nigeria. Three research questions guided the study. The study adopted a survey research design. The population for the study was 150 teachers from Technical Colleges, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education (Technical) and Universities; and 45 literate Parents which were purposively chosen in Lagos State. A structured questionnaire was employed to collect data from the respondents. Three experts validated the instrument for data collection. Cronbach alpha reliability method was adopted to determine the internal consistency of the questionnaire items and the overall reliability coefficient of 0.82 was obtained. One hundred and ninety-five copies of the questionnaire were administered, but only One hundred and seventy-five copies were retrieved, and analyzed using mean and standard deviation. From the data analyzed, the results showed that societal perception regarding Technical education programs, the undefined career progression for Technical Education programs, and lack of adequate support by Government and NGO were some of the problems causing low enrolment in Technical Education institutions in Lagos State, Nigeria. The study recommended that; Technical Education programs should be unbundled to give room for a defined career progression, and special budget should be accorded to Technical Education programs, being the bedrock of national technological development.
