EFFECTS OF GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE ON AMPHIBIANS AND REPTILES IN TURKEY AND THE WORLD

Abstract :This study aims to examine the effects of global climate change on amphibians and reptiles from previous research. Amphibians and reptiles are cold-blooded creatures. They can adjust their body temperature according to the outdoor temperature. Therefore, they are the living groups that will be most affected by the negative effects of global climate change. One of the consequences of global climate change is global warming. As temperatures rise, amphibians and reptiles are unable to carry out their metabolic activities, reproductive cycles and behaviors such as hibernation. In addition, the number of wetlands decreases with the increase in temperature. Amphibians and reptiles live close to wetlands. As a result of the decrease in wetlands, they either lose their habitats or have to move their habitats to colder regions. This leads to a decrease in the number of species or extinction. In this study, the effects of global climate change on amphibians and reptiles in Turkey and around the world are supported by examples, revealing the general effects of climate change on biodiversity.
