Does Displacement Change Gender Dynamics in the Global South? A Case Study of Displaced Populations in Pakistan

Abstract :Gender equality is an issue of global significance recognized by the United Nations (UN) by including in its agenda of Sustainable Development Goals. This study focuses on changing gender dynamics of the displaced communities. This study explores the displacement effects on the gender dynamics. The qualitative research methods were adopted. It reveals that displacement significantly change the gender role, decision making and social structure of the displaced Pashtun communities. It also revealed that displacement transformed the family structure from the joint to nuclear family. It increased the displaced women access to resources and opportunities. Moreover, displacement brought certain positive changes especially for the women displaced from the traditional setting. Displacement from the rural to urban setting often created opportunities that increase women liberty globally.
