An analysis of renewable energy sector in the GCC region: A focus on solar energy

Abstract :Considering the importance of the renewable energy sources in the coming future, this research is focussed on reviewing the global activities in the solar energy domain across the GCC region. The research analyses the published data from the six sample countries (Bahrain,Kuwait,Oman,Qatar,Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates) and attempts to draw conclusions by summarizing and drawing inferences. This inferential study focuses on the production, distribution and the consumption of solar energy and its impact on the energy sector as well as on the economies of the respective countries. Additionally, it also analyses relevant data from published sources. It is observed that the cost of production and distribution and the sources of financing are the imperative factors for projecting solar energy solutions as an energy alternative. GDP was observed to be significantly affected by net energy exports.
