STUDY OF BIOCHEMICAL PARAMETERS ASSOCIATED WITH INSULIN RESISTANCE IN TYPE-II DIABETES MELLITUS CASES OF KADAPA REGION
Author : Kandukuri Eswar Reddy
Abstract :Background: Diabetes mellitus is a long-term condition linked to cardiovascular issues, kidney dysfunction, and various illnesses, including metabolic syndrome. This study sought to examine the essential biochemical markers, such as serum uric acid, vitamins D and C, magnesium, and calcium, in addition to lipid profiles, that are correlated with insulin resistance in patients with type-II diabetes mellitus (DM) from the Kadapa region. Material And Methods: The current case-control study was carried out at Kadapa’s Fathima Medical College. For this study, 100 healthy volunteers and 100 type 2 diabetic patients were enlisted. In the Kadapa urban area, the study participants ranged in age from 40 to 70. The clinical biochemistry laboratory collected 5 ml of fasting blood samples and 3 ml of whole blood samples for the GOD POD method of estimating fasting blood sugar (FBS) and 2-hour postprandial blood sugar (PPBS), as well as serum uric acid, magnesium, and calcium using a fully automated clinical chemistry analyzer approved by the IFCC. Using the CHOD-PAP and GPO methods, the lipid profile—which includes total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, LDL, and VLDL—was estimated. The CMIA method and the 2.4-dinitrophenyl hydrazine method were used to estimate the serum levels of vitamin D and C, respectively. Results: Our results show that, in comparison to the healthy controls in the Kadapa urban area, the type-II DM patients had significantly higher levels of FBS, PPBS, and uric acid (p<0.001). In contrast, patients with type-II diabetes had significantly lower serum levels of calcium, magnesium, and vitamin D when compared to healthy controls. In comparison to healthy controls, type-II DM patients had significantly lower levels of vitamin C (p<0.0015). In the current study, we estimated the lipid profile because diabetes and hypercholesterolemia are strongly correlated. Accordingly
