Peace and Conflict Resolution: A Systematic Examination of Trust-Building Strategies in Adverse Contexts within Post-Secondary Education System
Author : Dr. Khushnuma F. Dubash
Abstract :With conflict on the rise in almost all areas of life, creating and implementing trust building strategies plays a pivotal role in establishing a foundation built on collaboration and mutual respect to foster resilient community relationships that will promote peace, particularly among young adults in post-secondary education. The study aims to examine how post-secondary learners from diverse diasporas can set aside their individual beliefs and ideologies to collaboratively cultivate an effective and conducive learning environment within the classroom setting. Since, we are now an eight billion strong community, and do not live in isolation, the post-secondary student population has been travelling extensively to get the education required to master desired skill set. Hence, you may have students from various nations like Somalia, Russia, and Ukraine, all in one classroom. These students may experience feelings of resentment towards their classmates, influenced by the diplomatic relationships between their respective countries. I would utilize a combination of qualitative interviews with students who have experienced conflict on campus and quantitative surveys to evaluate the impact of a new and enhanced Conflict Resolution Program (CRP) on overall trust and engagement. This mixed-methods approach will provide an overall understanding of the program’s efficacy and aid in identifying possible areas for progress. Qualitative study involving post-secondary students has highlighted the importance of introducing CRP within educational institutions. The findings have the potential to create effective strategies for fostering trust among all involved, particularly students, which is essential for promoting a positive and healthy learning environment, effectively managing conflict and support curriculum design
