Author : Nistor Gheorghita
Abstract :Introduction: The decision to pursue a career as a social worker is based on the existence of a prosocial behavior that develops under the influence of both internal (individual) and external (social) factors. Family, school and society play an important role in shaping the personality of adolescents, and implicitly pro-social behaviors. By examining a series of biological, sociological and psychological theories, along with individual factors such as genetic, psychological and moral influences, we can outline effective models for prosocial education and the promotion of social values. Research purpose: Analysis of the impact of social factors and instances that influence adolescents in choosing the social worker profession and developing a career in the field. Methodology: A quantitative research based on a sociological survey using a questionnaire was applied to a number of 238 students in the field of Social Work, from the University of Bucharest, Romania. The results revealed a significant gender disparity in the joy of the profession, with most people being female-89.5% (10.5% male); Std.D. 307. Conclusions and discussions: Altruism, responsibility and social values instilled in the family -80% and reinforced by educational institutions -10% and civil society influence the choice of a career in social work. Volunteering and social responsibility campaigns could further influence career choices, and vocational counseling programs focused on prosocial values should be more integrated into the development of adolescents
