Y-Site Compatibility on Parenteral Preparations in Intensive Care Unit of Referral Hospital, Central Java, Indonesia
Author : Erza Genatrika
Abstract :The use of parenteral preparations in hospitals has the potential for incompatibility between drugs when given to patients via the Y-Site route. This study aims to identify incompatibility events in mixing parenteral preparations given via the Y-Site route in patients in the intensive care unit of a referral hospital in Central Java, Indonesia. This study is descriptive observational for 3 months. Observations on the incompatibility of parenteral preparations with the Y-site route were carried out in the laboratory. The results showed that the use of parenteral preparations in the intensive care unit was 554, both in the form of small-volume parenteral and large-volume parenteral. Of the 554 parenteral preparations, there were 28 mixed preparations given via the Y-site route. Incompatibility of the preparation occurred in the mixture of Ringer Lactate-Ondansetron-Omeprazole preparations given simultaneously via the Y-site route. Incompatibility was indicated by the presence of crystals and the cloudy color of the preparation.
