Feminist Philosophy and Economics: The Impact of the Capabilities Approach on Gender Inequality

Abstract :Feminist philosophy has made an essential contribution to the development of economic theory, provoking the reevaluation of fundamental concepts and bringing to the forefront dimensions often overlooked in traditional economic models. This article analyzes the impact of feminist thought on economic theory, focusing on the integration of theories of social justice and resource redistribution within the economic framework. A central element of this influence is the capabilities approach, formulated by economists and feminist philosophers, particularly Amartya Sen and Martha Nussbaum. The capabilities approach proposes a framework for assessing well-being that goes beyond traditional economic indicators, focusing instead on individuals’ ability to realize their potential and live lives they consider valuable.
