The Impact of the Tri-Semester System on Continuous Assessment in Malaysia's Private Higher Learning Institution

Abstract :This research explores the impact of the Tri-Semester System specifically on continuous assessment among students in Malaysia’s private higher learning institutions. This system, which is used in many educational settings across the world, differs from the conventional two-semester model. Some private higher education institutions in Malaysia have implemented this technique in an effort to improve student involvement and academic efficiency. Unfortunately, with only 12 weeks of in-class instruction per semester, the restricted learning period is the main problem. Students frequently lack the time necessary to submit group projects efficiently as a result of this time constraint, producing work of inferior quality. These difficulties are altered by the Tri-Semester System's limitations, which put students under tremendous pressure to complete assignments in a shorter amount of time. Using a qualitative approach, this research investigates how the Tri-Semester System impacts students' ability to manage continuous assessments. The research highlights the challenges of upholding academic standards in such a system by exploring the perspectives and experiences of both students and teachers. The results highlight how crucial it is to modify instructional pedagogies and evaluation techniques in order to better conform to the Tri-Semester System. Teachers can lessen the negative consequences of the shortened school year by emphasizing workable solutions that improve student involvement and time management abilities. As a conclusion, this research provides insightful information for educators and policymakers looking to increase the efficacy of ongoing evaluations in private higher education institutions. Future studies can build upon these findings by exploring innovative pedagogical approaches tailored to the Tri-Semester System, ultimately enhancing student outcomes and academic quality
