Using a Podcast to Increase Engagement in Professional Development and Implications for Early Childhood Workforce Development
Author : Dr. Marisa Macy
Abstract :Podcasting can be used for workforce development through capacity-building practices to support a pedagogy of learning (Macy, 2023). A system of professional development can provide in-service or pre-service professionals with opportunities to learn. There are multiple ways of knowing and teaching. Curriculum development is one of the ways we share information in courses. College classes could enhance coursework by using podcasting. A Stanford professor, Albert Bandura, promoted the importance of learning from others in the Social Learning Theory. Much of early childhood teacher education revolves around t. His theory can be used to observe how teachers gain skills in the education professional when transferring tacit knowledge (Macy, 2024). Through the tacit transfer of knowledge/experience, students are learning in informal ways which may be just as important as formal ways and class content (Laser et al., 2024). This session will explore the idea that podcasting can be a form of pedagogy in a teacher preparation program. During this interactive presentation, participants will engage through conversation, visuals, and podcast examples. Guided discussion related to strategies for pedagogy development with podcasts will be facilitated during the session. Learning Objectives: By the end of this session, participants will: 1. gain understanding about use of podcasting to inform practices and pedagogy, and 2. explore how to create positive and productive professional environments with podcasts
