Exploring the Influence of Research in Teaching and Learning Practices: Voices of TVET Lecturers

Author : Nyanaambigai Rajanthran

Abstract :The success of higher education institutions depends on skilled lecturers equipped with the necessary knowledge, competencies, and abilities to deliver effective teaching and learning. In addition to strong pedagogical expertise, TVET lecturers in Malaysian polytechnics are also expected to participate actively in research-related activities. While numerous studies have examined the professional practices of TVET lecturers, limited attention has been given to their perspectives on how research engagement influences their teaching practices. Using a quantitative approach, this study investigated the current level of research involvement among Malaysian polytechnic TVET lecturers and examined its impact on their professional teaching practices. A survey was distributed via email to 128 TVET lecturers who attended the National TVET conference, CiE-TVET, and 82 lecturers responded. The findings revealed that the majority of respondents were actively involved in research activities. Moreover, their engagement in research had a positive effect on their teaching and learning practices
