A Study of Productivity of the U.S. Healthcare Industry During Pandemic Period

Abstract :This study reviews the productivity of the U.S. healthcare industry (ambulatory services, hospitals, and nursing and residential care facilities) for the past 6 years (2017 ~ 2022). The year 2020 was known as the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S. This study investigates the total factor productivity of the U.S. healthcare industry by using a Cobb Douglas production function on annual financial statement data in the U.S. stock exchange markets and tries to find any difference between before the COVID-19 pandemic (2017 ~ 2019) and during the Covid-19 period (2020-2022).
