Artificial Intelligence and the future of cardiothoracic surgery. Challenges and opportunities

Author : Grigori Kardumyan

Abstract :Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming an integral part of a human life, shaping our traditional understandings of the role of humanity. From economy to education, from culture to politics and security domains, AI has already brought tremendous transformations in every sphere of our civilization, heralding a new era in humanity. AI is rapidly emerging in healthcare too, yet its impact on surgery remains relatively underutilised. In this piece I will explore the possibilities of using AI in surgical sciences, particularly in cardiothoracic surgery and its impact on medical science overall. In my report, discourses among different scholarly views and arguments on the topic of concern are presented. Despite various approaches, scholars agree in unison that rapid advancements in modern technology have contributed to AI’s integration into all aspects of human life - particularly healthcare. Continuous research is being carried out on the applicability of AI in the fields of medicine and surgery, and its potential benefits in screening and intervention - with the ultimate goal of evolving the quality of patient care and safety.
