Empowering Learners through ChatGPT Training: Enhancing Ethical Awareness and Writing Performance
Author : Dr Venus Chan
Abstract :The rapid advancement of language models, such as ChatGPT, has significantly impacted the landscape of education and academic writing. This study explores the effectiveness of training programs designed to equip learners with the knowledge and skills to utilize ChatGPT responsibly and productively. The research project was conducted across universities in Hong Kong, where a series of training sessions were provided to learners. The training covered a comprehensive overview of ChatGPT, including its capabilities, ethical considerations, prompt design, and strategies for analyzing and adopting the responses generated for academic writing tasks. To assess the impact of the training, the research employed a combination of pre- and post questionnaires and pre- and post-tests. The results demonstrated that participants showed significant improvements in their understanding of ChatGPT, awareness of ethical use, and overall writing performance. The findings of this study have important implications for educators and policymakers, highlighting the need to proactively address the challenges and opportunities presented by emerging technologies, such as ChatGPT, in the educational domain. The training program developed in this research provides a valuable framework for empowering learners to leverage these advancements responsibly and effectively, ultimately enhancing their academic success and contributing to the ethical development of the field.
