Guided Zygomatic Implant Placement In Patients With Previous Maxillectomy Defects

Author : P Umassudan

Abstract :Zygomatic implants for standard atrophic maxilla patients are now a recognised procedure and standard of care. Oncology patients who are planned for or have previously undergone maxillectomy surgery present significant challenges in terms of optimal placement of zygomatic implants. In this cohort of patients, ensuring the head of the implant is in the correct prosthodontic position is essential in enabling the implant to be utilised for either a fixed or removable prosthesis. This case study is a zygomatic implant perforated flap (ZIP flap) case utilising a novel bone-borne zygomatic implant guide fixating onto the zygomatic buttress carried out at Newcastle Dental Hospital. We will discuss the processes involved with the planning stages and diagnostic workup using DTX implant software converted into an STL file for planning with the company KLS Martin for patients to enable precision placement of zygomatic implants in the optimal position and trajectory for Restorative Rehabilitation.
